When applying for a residence permit, the applicant must have his or her biometric features recorded.
This means that the applicant must have a facial photo taken and his or her fingerprints recorded. The facial photo and fingerprints will be stored on a microchip embedded in the residence card, which will be issued to the applicant if he or she is granted a permit.
SIRI can only begin processing the application after biometrics have been recorded by the applicant. This must happen no later than 14 days after the submission date of the application.
If the applicant does not agree to have their biometric features recorded, your application will be rejected. This means that your application will not be processed.
Read more about biometrics here.

In certain countries Denmark does not have a diplomatic mission or application centre. In these instances the list will refer the applicant to one of the Norwegian missions with which Denmark has made an agreement or to the nearest Danish diplomatic mission or application centre in the region.
If the applicant is residing in a country where he is referred to a Norwegian diplomatic mission, he or she must submit one passport photo. If he or she is granted a residence permit based on the application, the applicant must have his or her biometric features recorded within a specifi time frame after entry to Denmark

The individual diplomatic mission can have additional requirements regarding payment of additional fees, submission of additional passport photos or additional copies of the application.
You want a quick job start – and the applicant is already in Denmark
If you have submitted the application and the applicant is residing legally in Denmark because the applicant either:
- is holding a valid visa,
- is exempt from the visa requirement,
- already holds a valid residence permit,
the applicant can attend a meeting in one of SIRI’s branch offices and get a preliminary work permit to start working immediately.
You must book an appointment for the meeting via a booking link in the application. You can find your application by logging in to your user. Find the login link under the step "Find the application".
You can also get the link by contacting your contact person at SIRI. You cannot book an appointment for the meeting on newtodenmark.dk.
At the appointment, SIRI will perform a number of checks, including an identity check, a check that the applicant has not been registered as unwanted in the Schengen area and that the you are a certified company. In addition, we will check that the processing fee has been paid. Finally, the applicant must have their biometric features recorded.
If you want to book an appointment for a preliminary work permit in Esbjerg, you must write your contact person in SIRI. You can also call your contact person during the normal opening hours of the contact person arrangement. Book an appointment no later than 12 PM the day before. For technical reasons, you cannot book an appointment via the link in the application.
It is not possible to book an appointment for a preliminary work permit at SIRI Sønderborg.

You want a quick job start – and the applicant is staying abroad and cannot travel to Denmark without a visa
The applicant must as soon as possible, and no later than 14 days after you have submitted the application, have their biometric features recorded at the nearest Danish diplomatic mission.
When the applicant has recorded their biometric features, SIRI will give a residence and work permit if they meet the requirements. At the same time, SIRI approves that the Danish diplomatic mission gives the applicant a long-stay visa (D visa) so that they can enter Denmark.
If you have submitted the application and forgotten to choose that the applicant needs a quick job start, you can write us through our contact form. Choose the option "We are applying under the Fast-Track Scheme and need a quick job start for our employee". Remember to state the application's case order ID and reference number in the message.
If you already have choosen in the application that the applicant needs a quick job start, you do not need to write us.
You have submitted the application succesfully if:
- You have created a case order ID.
- You have paid the fee.
- You have submitted the application.
- The applicant has recorded their biometric features.
You can see the normal case processing time to the right on this page. When we make a decision in your case, you will receive an answer.
SIRI will contact you if we need further information to process your case.
The applicant's residence card will automatically be sent to the address that has been registered under their name in the Civil Registration System (CPR). It is important that their name is written on the mailbox. If their name is not written on the mailbox, there is a chance that the residence card will not be delivered to them, and that it will be sent back to SIRI instead.
If you have asked for a quick job start from abroad, we will as a rule make a decision approximately 10 days after we have received the application including biometrics and the processing fee. However, this requires that we have all the necessary information.
