Herdsmen and farm managers

You can be granted a residence and work permit in Denmark as a herdsman or farm manager in agriculture.

Conditions

It is a precondition that you must possess the professional qualifications to carry out the offered job. You must therefore have completed a relevant educational programme. In addition, your salary and employment conditions must correspond to Danish Standards.

When processing an application for a residence permit as a herdsman or farm manager, a statement from the regional labour market council may be obtained in order to assess whether the offered salary and employment conditions correspond to Danish standards.

Please note that mink farm hands and agricultural workers in addition to managers within horticulture and forestry are not covered by this scheme.

Duration

You will normally be granted a residence and work permit for one year at a time, but not for longer than the validity period of your employment contract. If you have been with the same employer, in the same position, for at least two consecutive years, you may be granted a two-year extension, and subsequently, for periods of three years at a time.

Please note that it is a precondition that your passport is valid for at least 3 months beyond the time period for which you seek a permit.

If you submit your application from your country of origin or another country where you have legally resided for at least the past three months, you can be granted a residence permit valid for one month prior to the date your job begins. This is to enable you to get settled in Denmark. It is a condition that you declare that you can support yourself and any accompanying family members for one month prior to beginning at your new job. If you do not declare this, your residence permit will be valid for 14 days prior to the date your job begins. If you submit your application in Denmark, your residence permit will be valid from the date your job begins.

You can apply for an extension of your permit if you are still in the same job. If your permit expires, and you have applied for an extension, and you are still in the same job, on the same terms, as when you got your original permit, then you can stay in Denmark and continue working while your application for an extension is being processed.

If you  find a new job

If you find a new job while you are working, you may begin your new job before you have received a new permit, provided that you submit an application for a new residence and work permit no later than the day you start your new job.
