For the period from 1 July 2017 until 30 June 2018 a residence permit could in some instances be granted to an accompanying family member to an expatriate Dane who wished to return to Denmark to work.

The scheme expired on 1 July 2018.

As an accompanying family member to an expatriate Dane, your residence permit is linked to the expatriate Dane’s job in Denmark.

You must always inform SIRI if the expatriate Dane loses his or her job or changes job

If the expatriate Dane loses the job

You must inform SIRI if the expatriate Dane loses his or her job.

However, if the expatriate Dane becomes unemployed through no fault of his or her own, e.g. due to cutbacks, you can apply for an extra 6 month residence permit. You can apply for the residence permit immediately after the employment ends, and no later than 2 days after the employment ends.

If the expatriate Dane changes job

You must inform SIRI if the expatriate Dane changes job.

SIRI will assess whether the expatriate Dane’s new employment could be the basis for a residence permit granted to a foreign national under the Pay Limit Scheme or the Positive List. If this is the case, you will keep your original residence permit.

Since 1 July 2018 it is no longer possible to apply for a residence permit as an accompanying family member to an expatriate Dane.

It is therefore not possible to apply for a new permit as an accompanying family member to an expatriate Dane.

Likewise you cannot apply for an extension of your current permit as an accompanying family member to an expatriate Dane.

If you wish to continue to stay in Denmark, it is very important that you apply for a residence permit on other grounds before your current permit expires.

Other grounds could for example be family reunification.
