New grounds for residence in the study area: master’s degree programme for working professionals
On 1 July 2025, a new study scheme will come into effect for foreign nationals who want to combine a career and a master's degree.
On 27 May 2025, the Danish Parliament adopted rules on a new study residence scheme that allows foreign nationals to obtain a residence permit to complete a master's degree in Denmark.
The purpose of the master's degree programme for working professionals is to strengthen the connection between university education and the needs of the labour market. The programme enables students to gain relevant work experience while continuing their education at master's level. The aim is to encourage students to put their professional knowledge into practice and gain skills that support a smooth transition from education to the labour market.
As a third-country national, it is a prerequisite for admission to a master's degree programme for working professionals, which is a part-time study programme, that you have entered into a valid employment agreement with a public or private employer for concurrent relevant part-time employment. The part-time employment must correspond to an average of up to 112.5 hours per month.
