Who can apply for a laissez-passer?

You can apply for a laissez-passer if you are a foreign national with a residence permit in Denmark, and if you are leaving the country to be granted a new passport from the authorities of your home country.

You can apply for a laissez-passer if you are a foreign national born in Denmark and have submitted an application for a residence permit in Denmark, and you are leaving the country to be granted a new passport from the authorities of your home country.

Please note, the agency only grants laissez-passer to a limited extent.

Not all countries acknowledge a Danish laissez-passer either. Consequently we cannot issue a laissez-passer to you if you need to travel to the following countries:

  • Estonia

  • United Arab Emirates

  • Iran

  • Latvia

  • Lithuania

  • Somalia

  • Germany

  • Vietnam

What are the conditions?

You need to be aware of the following:

  • You must provide a specific reason for your need of a laissez-passer.
  • We expect you will be granted a new passport from your home country during the period in which the granted laissez-passer is valid.
  • We will only grant you a laissez-passer if your home country has no representation in Denmark or your home country’s representation cannot give you travel documents.
  • As a starting point, we do not grant a laissez-passer with a validity of more than 5 days to countries in Europe or 30 days in your home country.
