The expected maximum processing time is
3 months

The fee is
DKK 1,270

Who needs to pay a fee?

If your residence card is lost or damaged, the fee for a new residence card is DKK 1,270 (2024 level). You also need to pay the fee if you have an old, laminated residence card or an old plastic card without expiry date and would like a new biometric, plastic residence card.

Please note that non-biometric residence cards issued as proof of permanent residence permit (issued before May 2011 without an expiry date) are not considered to have expired and thus remain valid.

You do not need to pay a fee for a new residence card issued in connection with one of the following changes:

  • New CPR number
  • New grounds for residency (new residence permit)
  • Change in your personal data (e.g. date of birth, country of birth or nationality)
  • Name change in connection with marriage or divorce
  • You have permanent residence permit and your residence card expires within 3 months or has expired.

If you are applying for a residence card for one of the abovementioned, fee-free reasons, you need to attach documentation for the change when you submit your application.

You do not need to pay the fee for a new residence card if you are child under the age of 18 and need proof that you hold a residence permit, or if your already issued residence card expires within 3 months or has expired.

Please note that children under the age of 18 can be issued a residence card for a maximum of 5 years at a time.

Refund

If you paid the fee for a residence card and the Immigration Service later determines that you did not need to, the fee will be refunded.

If you have lost your residence card

If you have lost your residence card, you must fill in a declaration (P 650-031) to the police concerning a lost passport or identity document.

Download declaration at politi.dk

You can also get the declaration at a police station.

The declaration must be signed and stamped by the police and attached to your application for a new residence card.

The police can help you with entering the number of your old residence card in the declaration.

Who can be issued a new residence card?

You can apply for a new residence card if you hold a temporary residence permit on the grounds of family reunification or asylum, or if you have a permanent residence permit, and:

  • you have lost your residence card,
  • you have permanent residence permit and your residence card has expired,
  • you need to update the personal details listed on your card (such as your name or nationality),
  • you have an old, laminated residence card, or an old plastic card without an expiry date, and would like a new biometric plastic card, or
  • you are under 18 and require proof that you hold a residence permit.

Your new residence card will be sent to the address you are registered with the Civil Registration System (CPR). It is important that your full name appears on the mailbox.

If you hold a residence permit on the grounds of work or study, you need to apply for a new residence card from the Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

If you have already submitted an application to extend a residence permit or for a permanent residence permit, you do not need to submit an application for a residence card.
