SIRI and the Danish Immigration Service warn against phone scams and fake emails
The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) and the Danish Immigration Service have experienced several instances of unknown people contacting citizens via email or phone calls, pretending to be from either SIRI or the Danish Immigration Service.
Recently, SIRI and the Danish Immigration Service have been contacted by multiple citizens who have received fake emails and phone calls from scammers. Because of this, it is important that you pay extra attention to whether the emails and phone calls you receive from SIRI or the Danish Immigration Service are fake, and take the necessary precautions if you have been exposed to fraud.
We rarely contact you via email
We will normally not send personal, confidential or sensitive information to you via regular email:
- As a rule, we will usually not write to you about your specific case via email: Instead, we will send you letters via Digital Post or via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ representations.
- We will normally not send you emails with information about your application for residence in Denmark: All information concerning your application to SIRI or the Danish Immigration Service are considered to be confidential. Therefore, this information will, as a rule, usually only be sent to you via Digital Post or via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ representations.
How to spot a fake email
- The email is about a specific case concerning residence in Denmark.
- The person who sent the email is asking you to pay money to a certain bank account.
- The email signature contains spelling errors or other mistakes regarding the name of the agency or the ministry it claims to be from.
- The email address looks suspicious. This could be due to the address domain being from Google or another private company.
As a rule, we will usually not ask you to pay over the phone
There are certain instances where we might call you, but if we do, we will normally not ask you to pay money to a certain bank account. If you have to pay a fee, we will usually direct you toward our payment solution on newtodenmark.dk.
