New digital passport applications

The Danish Immigration Service has launched two new digital solutions for applying for passports for foreign nationals in Denmark. These solutions must be used if you wish to apply for a new passport or extend the validity of your current passport as a foreign national in Denmark.

The two new application solutions include one solution for adults and one for children under the age of 18.

How to apply

Under the “How to apply” tab, you can select whether the application concerns an adult or a child under the age of 18.

If the application concerns a child

If the applicant is a child under the age of 18, a custody holder must submit the application on behalf of the child.

If the child has two custody holders, the other parent must generally give consent. If the other parent lives in Denmark and is registered for Digital Post, they must give their consent digitally as part of the digital application.

Payment and appearance in person

If you apply for a new passport, you need to pay a fee. You must pay the fee online on nyidanmark.dk before submitting the application. You pay the fee during the digital application process.

Once you have submitted your digital application, you must appear in person at the Danish Immigration Service’s Citizen Service. Here you need to:

have a passport photo taken
provide a signature
have your fingerprints recorded.

Children under the age of 12 are not required to have fingerprints recorded.

You do not need to bring a passport photo yourself. This also applies even if you have previously been instructed to bring one. Remember to bring the receipt confirming that you have submitted your application digitally.

Extension of passport validity

In certain cases, you can have the validity of your current passport extended. It is free of charge to extend the validity of a passport, and you do not need to appear in person at the Danish Immigration Service’s Citizen Service.

When completing the digital application, you will be guided on which documentation you must attach. You must attach the documentation during the application process. We recommend that you have the documentation ready before you begin.
