Information for people from Syria and their family members

The suspension of asylum cases concerning individuals from Syria has now been lifted. The suspension of certain other cases concerning individuals from Syria and their family members has also been lifted. However, applications for permanent residence permits remain suspended.

Processing of asylum cases concerning individuals from Syria resumes

On 10 December 2024, the Danish Immigration Service decided, following the Refugee Appeals Board’s decision to suspend cases, to also suspend the processing of asylum cases concerning individuals from Syria due to the highly unstable situation in the country following the fall of the Assad regime.

At a meeting on 30 June 2025, the Refugee Appeals Board’s Coordination Committee decided to lift the suspension. This means that pending cases before the Refugee Appeals Board will be remitted to the Danish Immigration Service for renewed first-instance processing. In continuation of this, the Danish Immigration Service is lifting the suspension of asylum cases concerning individuals from Syria.

The Danish Immigration Service is currently collecting and assessing background information about the situation in Syria, which will enable us to process asylum applications from individuals from Syria.

The Danish Immigration Service expects to begin summoning individuals from Syria for asylum interviews in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Processing of other cases concerning individuals from Syria resumes

The processing of other cases that were also suspended due to the suspension of asylum cases will generally also be resumed.

This includes, for example, cases concerning the extension of residence permits for certain refugees from Syria as well as cases concerning family members reunified with these refugees.

However, the suspension of certain applications for permanent residence permits will for the time being remain in place.
