Suggestion to remove the possibility to extend Greencard permits

Persons with a residence permit under the Greencard scheme should consider other residence permit options already now.

The Ministry of Immigration and Integration has drafted a bill which has been sent to the relevant authorities and organisations for comments.

The draft suggests that from 1 April 2024, it will no longer be possible to extend a residence permit under the Greencard scheme. In addition, it will no longer be possible to be granted a residence permit - or to extend a residence permit - as an accompanying family member of a Greencard holder.

If the bill is passed, Greencard holders will have the option of applying for a residence permit under the Labour Market Attachment scheme. In addition, family members will be able to apply as accompanying family members under this scheme.

In order to be granted a residence permit under the Labour Market Attachment scheme, you must have been working for the same employer without interruption for at least the past two years before the date you apply.

Consequently, it is important to be aware of this possibility now, if you hold a residence permit under the Greencard scheme and you wish to continue to live and work in Denmark.
