Please note that the deadline for applying for a new residence document on the basis of the Withdrawal Agreement between the EU and the UK expires 31 December 2021

You have been sent this letter because you are registered as a UK citizen or as a family member of a UK citizen in the Central Office of Civil Registration (CPR).

This letter is merely a reminder that the deadline for submitting the mandatory application for a new residence document in connection with Brexit expires 31 December 2021.

If you have already submitted your application for a new residence document, you do not need to read any further or take any action. Also, if you are a Danish citizen, citizen of one of the Nordic countries, Switzerland or the EU/EEA, please ignore this letter.

It is a condition in order to maintain previous residence rights based on EU rules on free movement, that you submit your application no later than 31 December 2021. You can read more about when and how to apply in the following.

When do I have to submit my application?

It is your year of birth that determines during which month you and any family members should submit your application.

October

If you were born between 1985 and 1989, you should submit your application during October.

November
If you were born in the 1990s and onwards, you should submit your application during November.

Born before 1985 and not yet submitted your application? Please submit your application as soon as possible

If you were born before 1985 and have not yet submitted your application, please submit your application as soon as possible and no later than 31 December 2021.

Where can I find the application form?

You can find the application form (BR1) online via our website www.newtodenmark.dk/brexit

Click on "Brexit – application page". Then select your status (e.g. employee, student or family member etc.). Click on the tab "How to apply". Follow the five points step-by-step.

Recording of biometric data

You must have your biometrics recorded in connection with the submission of your application. The biometrics consist of four parts: ID check, face photo, fingerprint and signature. The latter three will be stored in the residence card. Therefore, recording biometrics requires that you appear in person at one of our citizen centres. Remember to bring a valid passport. You cannot have your biometrics recorded if you do not present a valid passport.

Once you have submitted your application you will receive an email in your eboks/e-mail with an appointment link for biometric recordings from SIRI. Please note that it can take up to two weeks from the date of submission until you receive an appointment link. As we have limited capacity in our citizen centres, we encourage you to book an appointment for biometrics immediately after receiving the link. Families can book time for several people on the same booking link.

What happens if I submit my application after 31 December 2021?

As a main rule, your application will be rejected if submitted after 31 December 2021. Applications submitted after 31 December 2021 will only be processed if the late application is due to special excusable circumstances.
