European Youth Event 2006
Youth event on the active participation of ethnic minority youth in society.
How do we ensure equal opportunities in employment and education for young people regardless of ethnic, social or religious background? How can we work to create social cohesion for all citizens and prevent radicalisation in Europe? These are questions that draw attention from all areas of society these days.
Ensuring a cohesive yet plural Europe is to a large degree dependant on the integration of young people in society. In order to ensure successful integration of young people, one needs not only to have debates on youth-issues but also to involve young people actively in these discussions.
Therefore the Danish Ministry of Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs and the Dutch Ministry for Immigration and Integration chose to establish a youth event in order to bring together youth from all Europe for a week of sharing ideas on European integration issues.
The Danish Youth Council and the Danish Ministry of Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs in cooperation with the Dutch National Youth Council and the Dutch Ministry for Immigration and Integration hosted the European youth event 2006. The aim was to discuss and find ways of resolving the important issues of youth participation and equal opportunities for youngsters with diverse backgrounds.
53 Young people from all over Europe participated in a week of fruitful discussions about issues of social cohesion, radicalisation, employment and education amongst others.
The many ideas that were fostered at the youth event were transformed into a presentation, which was carried out by 9 elected youth ambassadors at the European ministerial conference on active participation of ethnic minority youth in society in Copenhagen on September 8.
