If you are prevented from departing Denmark due the ban on flights as a result of the ash cloud from Iceland’s volcanic eruption
If you are in Denmark for a short-term visit and were to have departed today, please pay close attention to the information below.
Copenhagen Airport has announced that Danish airspace will not reopen to air traffic before Saturday, 17 April at 8:45 am.
Due to the unforeseen nature of the event, you can be issued a visa extension permitting you to return to your home country directly from Denmark or via another Schengen country.
If you depart this weekend, and you are scheduled to depart the Schengen Area from Denmark, you do not need to take further action. Airport border control officials have been instructed to allow you to depart as normal.
If you plan to depart the Schengen Area from a country other than Denmark and your visa has expired, you must have a transit visa. A transit visa can be obtained from the Copenhagen Airport police station, located in the corridor connecting Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, or the Billund Airport police station.
