Annulment of the transitional legislation for citizens from the new EU countries
The transitional legislation for citizens from the new EU countries ceases with effect from 1 May 2009.
This means that citizens from Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Hungary from this date on are on a par with citizens in the other EU countries in relation to Denmark.
Therefore there will no longer be any requirement for employees from the new EU countries to have a work permit issued according to Immigration Act regulations for working in this country.
From now on citizens from the new EU countries are included in EU regulations and must therefore, like other EU citizens who are working in this country, apply for a certificate of registration with state administration within three months after arrival in the country.
Citizens from the new EU countries applying for residency as employees, whose applications were received before 1 May 2009, will be processed by Immigration Service in accordance with EU regulations.
