What is a digital signature?
A digital signature allows you to confirm your identity when completing online forms, submitting applications or accessing sensitive personal information.
As a form of online identification, the digital signature allows you to safely send sensitive information on the internet.
Anyone over the age of 15 holding a Danish CPR number and who is a registered resident of Denmark can obtain a digital signature. Read more about the digital signature (nets-danid.dk) (Danish only)
Starting on 1 July 2010, a new type of digital signature called a NemID will also be available. Read more about NemID (nemid.nu)
What is a digital employee signature?
Companies/employers who want to use the Immigration Service’s online forms normally need to log in using a digital employee signature. The digital employee signature is a company-specific digital signature assigned to an individual employee. Read more about the digital employee signature (nets-danid.dk) (Danish only)
How can I obtain a digitial signuature?
If you have a Danish CPR number, you can order a NemID, the newest version of the digital signature, at www.nemid.nu. Order your NemID (nemid.nu)
Note: You must have a Danish CPR number in order to obtain a digital signature/NemID.
I work for a Danish company. How do I order a digital employee signature?
Your company’s local registration authority for digital signatures will be able to tell you how to obtain a digital employee signature. Read more about digital employee signatures (nets-danid.dk) (Danish only)
Can I use a regular digital signature instead of a digital employee signature and vice versa?
No. You must use the correct type of digital signature. Please read the instructions in the on-line form thoroughly.
I have problems with my digital signature?
If you have problems logging in or signing an application with your digital signature, you can find help on the DanID website. The website also contains helpful hints for using the regular digital signature, as well as an application for testing whether your digital signature works. Get help using your digital signature (nets-danid) (Danish only).
If you receive one of the following messages, your most likely need to upgrade to a later version of Java.
- When you click on the link “Log in using a digital signature”, a red X appears, and then freezes up.
- A grey progress box opens and counts up to 98%, then freezes up.
- If your version of Java is 1.5.0 or older, we recommend upgrading to a later version.
My computer doesn’t have Java
You cannot use the digital signature unless you are running the correct version of Java. Follow the instructions below to download a free version of Java:
1. Log in to www.java.com and click on “Free Java Download”.
2. Save the file on your computer someplace where you can easily find it.
3. Find the file you have downloaded and double click on it.
4. Follow the instructions the installation program, choosing “standard installation”.
5. Restart your computer.
My browser doesn’t support the digital signature?
DanID’s website contains a list of browsers that support the digital signature. Read more about the digital signature (nets-danid.dk) (Danish only).
I can’t open my email receipt?
If you after having submitted an online application (or a part of an online application) have received an email receipt, the email receipt will for security reasons be sent by secure email.

If you have used NemID to sign the online application, you can read more about how to open a secure e-mail at nemid.nu (Danish only).
Please note that you cannot receive secure e-mails if you use webmail, such as Hotmail, Gmail etc.
