When can a school travel list be used?
The EU school trip list is for pupils/students who are non-EU citizens, who have residence permits in Denmark and who plan to stay for a short time or travel through one or more EU countries.
An EU school trip list can be used by pupils/students from age 6 to approx. 22 in the ordinary Danish school system:
- Primary schools (Folkeskole)
- Private schools
- Gymnasium schools and
HF courses
Other schools, for example youth schools and Danish folk high schools, cannot normally travel on a school trip list.
If the student is entered on a school trip list where photos of those on the list have been attached, the student does not need a visa, passport or other travel document; nor does he or she need a re-entry permit to participate in a school trip in an EU country.
Please note that only the original list can be used as a visa/travel document.
If a student is a citizen of a non-EU country and has a personal, valid passport, only the student's name, national security number, place of birth and nationality together with the school's stamp and the signature of the school principal are required. This list - which functions as a visa does not need to be certified by the Danish Immigration Service or any other authority. The passport must be brought on the trip.
If a student does not have a personal passport, the list can also be used as a passport. This is done as follows:
- The list is filled in with the student's name, national security number, place of birth and nationality together with the school's stamp and the signature of the school principal. A photo of the student must be attached. Please note that the photo must be glued onto the list and not stapled to it, as the Immigration Service will stamp over the photo.
- The list should be sent to the Immigration Service for certification.
- After returning home, the school trip list should be sent to the Immigration Service.
The school trip list can be obtained from the Immigration Service by emailing pas@us.dk or at the nearest police station.
In addition to Denmark, the following countries are covered by the list:
- Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
In addition, Latvia accepts the school trip list instead of a visa, if the student has his or her own passport and shows this upon entering the country.
If the student has a passport or Danish residence permit in the form of a residence sticker in the passport or a residence card, he or she can travel to the Schengen region without being entered on a school trip list.
The Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
