Which of the rules for residency apply to Greenland and the Faroe Islands?

Those foreigners requiring a visa for entering Denmark require a special visa for the Faroe Islands and Greenland in order to travel to those places.

Likewise, those foreigners must have a special residence permit in order to stay for a longer period on the Faroe Islands or Greenland. Neither the visa nor the residence permit to the Faroe Islands or Greenland gives the holder the right to reside outside of the Faroe Islands or Greenland, including Denmark.

Foreigners who are not Nordic citizens must have residence and work permits for Greenland.

Applications for residence permits in Greenland and the Faroe Islands can be made to a Danish representant in another country. If the applicant is residing legally in Denmark, the application can be made at the nearest police station, or if the applicant is residing in the Greater Copenhagen area, to the Danish Immigration Service.

In Greenland and on the Faroe Islands the application can be made to the police, who will send it on to the Danish Immigration Service.
