Residence permits, which are issued before 25 March 2000 are supplied with a stamp (and not a self-adhesive sticker) in the holder’s travel document. For foreign national citizens who are must have a visa, these stamps are supplemented with a Norwegian visa sticker for the residence permit’s validity period. Residence permits that are issued after the introduction of the Schengen rules on 25 March 2001 will be supplied with a self-adhesive sticker. If a foreign citizen’s travel document is supplied with a stamp, this is still valid until the Norwegian authorities must replace the stamps with the new sticker, which must be placed on the residence permit.

The abovementioned permits are not valid as travel identification. If the foreign citizen needs travel identification, one of the following two documents can be used as a supplement to the work, residence or establishment permit:

• Reisebevis for flyktninger
  (Travel certificate for refugees (blue))
• Utlendingspass
  (Foreign national passport (green))

The holder of one of these travel documents is assured renewed entry to Norwegian area for the validity period of the document.

• EØS-kort
  (EEA card)
  For citizens from EEA member states as well as their family members who are citizens of a third country. This card is always laminated)
• Identitetskort for diplomater
  (Identity card for diplomats (red))
• Identitetskort for hjelpepersonale ved diplomatisk stasjon
  (Identity card for service staff of a diplomatic representation (brown))
• Identitetskort for administrativt og teknisk personale ved diplomatisk stasjon
  (Identity card for administrative and technical staff of a diplomatic representation (blue))
• Identitetskort for utsendte konsuler
  (Identity card for stationed consuls (green))
• Residence/Visa sticker
  (Residence visa in the form of a sticker)
  For visa-obligated holders of a diplomatic passport, service passport or official passport as well as personnel of foreign representations who are holders of a national passport.
