Danish language test (Prøve i Dansk 1)
In order to qualify for permanent residence, you must pass Prøve i Dansk 1 or a Danish language test of an equivalent or higher level.
Documentation indicating that you have successfully completed your language test should be submitted with your application. It should be noted that individual module tests that are conducted throughout Danish language courses do not meet the application’s Danish language requirement. Approved Danish language tests are conducted as formal examinations.
Below is a list of Danish language tests that are equivalent to or represent a higher level than Prøve i Dansk 1: - Successful completion of Prøve i Dansk 1, Prøve i Dansk 2 or Prøve i Dansk 3 with an average grade of at least 6 (on the Danish 13 point grading scale) or 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale), or Studieprøven with an average grade of at least 6 (on the Danish 13 point grading scale) or 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale) in each of the four disciplines. (When calculating the average grade for Prøve i Dansk 1, Prøve i Dansk 2 and Prøve i Dansk 3, the oral communication grade is doubled).
- 9th or 10th grade final exams with an average grade of at least 6 (on the Danish 13 point grading scale) or 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale) in the Danish disciplines, except for conduct.
- Passed Danish ‘gymnasium’ final exams or similar (Studentereksamen, HF, HHX, HTX).
- HF: Danish as a second language with an average grade of at least 02 (on the Danish 7-point grading system).
- AMU: Danish as a second language level G, Danish as a second language level D, Danish level G or Danish level D with an average grade of at least 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale). Provide completion certificate for passed AlmenForberedelseseksamen.
- Passed FVU-læsning level 2, 3 or 4.Provide completion certificate for basic level (grundforløbsbevis) or, in the case of a partially completed basic level, a transcript indicating completed courses and exams, as well as term grades or exam grades of at least 6 (on the Danish 13 point grading scale) or 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale) in Danish levels A-F.
- Danskprøve 3 at Studieskolen in Copenhagen, Studieskolen in Odense or Århus Kommunes Sprogcenter.
- Completed higher educational programme in Danish at a university, business school, nursing college or teacher training college, unless the programme was taken in a language other than Danish.
- Completed the Social and Health Helper programme, basic level in pedagogy (PGU) or Social and Health Assistant programme with an average grade of at least 6 (on the Danish 13 point grading scale) or 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale).
Previous programmes which still qualify:
- Almenprøve 2, taken at a language centre, with an average grade of at least 6.
- Danskprøve 2, taken at a language centre, (known as Studieprøven from 2002).
- Profiltest,taken at a language centre,with an average grade of at least 3.
- Erhvervsforberedende prøve, taken at a language centre, passed with an average grade of 6 or B.
- Voksenuddannelsesforberedende prøve (VUF), taken at a language centre, passed with an average grade of at least 6 or B.
- Danish as a second language, level 1, Dansk level 1 or Dansk level 2 as part of an avu programme.
- Completed the social and health helper programme, basic teacher training programme (pgu), social and health assistant programme and agricultural studies, with an average term or exam grade of at least 6 (on the Danish 13 point grading scale) or 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale).
- Completed vocational programme (such as a basic level programme (grundforløb) or, in the case of a partially completed basic level, a transcript indicating completed courses and exams, as well as term grades or exam grades of at least 6 (on the Danish 13 point grading scale) or 02 (on the Danish 7 point grading scale) in Danish levels A-F.
Language requirements for previous Danish citizens or those born in South Schleswig:
- Applicants who have previously held Danish citizenship and who hold a residence permit under the Aliens Act, section 9d (or previously section 9(1)(i)), who have attended a Danish school for a least six years are regarded as having knowledge of Danish at an equivalent or higher level than Prøve i Dansk 1.
- Applicants who were born in South Schleswig who have (at least in part) attended a Danish school, and who, while living in South Schleswig have displayed an attachment to Denmark, are regarded as having knowledge of Danish at an equivalent or higher level than Prøve i Dansk 1.
