The collateral requirement

Your spouse/partner in Denmark must post DKK 62,231 (2010 level) in collateral in the form of a bank guarantee.

This guarantee is designed to cover any future public assistance paid to you by your municipality after you relocate to Denmark.

Please note that for applications submitted in 2009, the required amount is DKK 60,011.

In order to meet the collateral requirement, a Danish financial institution must issue the guarantee, known as a demand guarantee.

Your spouse/partner in Denmark should only provide the demand guarantee when the Immigration Service requests it.

The demand guarantee must be valid for seven years from the date your residence permit was issued and may not be revocable. The guarantee will be released on certain conditions, e.g. if you are granted a permanent residence permit, and if any expenses which the municipality may have had have been covered.

You can request to have the amount of the guarantee reduced by 50 percent after you have passed your final Danish language test or have received proof of your active participation in the course.
