How to acquire a nationality certificate

An application for a Danish nationality certificate must be submitted on a special application form.

You can download the application form here (PDF) or collect it from a Danish mission abroad.

If you hand in your application form to a Danish mission abroad (embassy or consulate), you must expect to pay a fee to the mission.

If you send or hand in the application form to the Ministry of Justice, no fee is payable.

When an application form is handed in to a mission, the mission officials will review the application form and appendices.

The mission will then forward the application form to the Ministry of Justice.

The Ministry of Justice will then examine whether you satisfy the conditions set out in the Nationality Act for having acquired and retained Danish nationality.

The Ministry will inform you when your application has been processed.
