Foreign researchers can submit a digital application for a residence and work permit

The Danish Agency for Labour Retention and International Recruitment wishes to enable foreign researchers to submit their application for a residence and work permit digitally in the same way that other highly qualified professionals can.

On 19 March 2012, a new version of the digital application form AR1 online is released. The new version can also be used by foreign researchers and will make it easier for researchers to apply for a residence and work permit in Denmark.

AR1 online: Application for a residence and work permit in Denmark on the grounds of salaried work

The digital application form consists of two parts. The research institution in Denmark and the foreign researcher is to fill in one part each. The research institution in Denmark begins the application process by filling in part 1 of the digital application.

Please note that the research institution is required to log on to and sign part 1 using a digital employee signature or private NemID. The digital form contains a detailed description of how to fill in and submit the form. This information is also available in English.

As the new version of AR1 online is released, the paper application form ST2 will no longer be in use. Up until now, ST2 has been the application form to use for foreign researchers employed at Danish research institutions. In future, if researchers wish to submit a paper application form – as opposed to the digital form – they should use AR1.
