The Ministry of Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs is closed

As of October 3 2011, the Ministry of Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs is closed. The decision by the new government to close the ministry will see the ministry’s responsibilities transferred to other ministries.

Among the changes are:
  • Danish as a second language instruction is now the responsibility of the Ministry of Children and Education.
  • Integration policy, prevention of radicalisation and integration studies are now the responsibility of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.
  • Integration of refugees and immigrants into the labour market and the educational system, including introduction programmes, is now the responsibility of the Ministry of Employment.
  • Asylum, humanitarian residence, family reunification, residence for EU citizens, Danish citizenship and short-term visas are now the responsibilities of the Ministry of Justice.
  • Residence permits granted on the grounds of work or studies, including the Green Card scheme, the Positive List, the Pay Limit scheme, au pair stays, job, student residence permit, etc. is now the responsibility of the Ministry of Employment.

Changes to newtodenmark.dk

The website newtodenmark.dk will continue to be the internet portal to information about immigration in Denmark. The Immigration Service is in the midst of a reorganisation of the website in order to reflect the changes enacted on 3 October.

The information in the Coming to Denmark section of newtodenmark.dk is based on the current immigration regulations. The new government has proposed a number of changes to these policies.
