Unemployment insurance and pension schemes
When working in Denmark you may receive unemployment insurance to compensate you in case of unemployment. Below you can read more about the different rules and regulations regarding unemployment insurance and the different types of pension schemes.
Unemployment insurance
In Denmark insurance against unemployment is voluntary. If you want to be insured against unemployment, you must apply for admission into an unemployment insurance fund.
Persons who have worked in another EU/EEA country may include periods of insurance and unemployment from this work in order to meet the conditions of the Danish unemployment insurance system. The conditions for receiving benefits are that you have been a member for 12 months and have worked for 52 weeks over the last three years.
Many unemployment insurance funds are affiliated with a trade union. It is not a prerequisite to be a member of the trade union in order to become a member of an unemployment insurance fund and vice versa. Some funds only accept membership of persons working in certain occupational fields while other funds are cross-sector. If you would like to receive a higher compensation rate than the statutory regime offers, you can take out supplementary insurance with companies that offer such insurance (unemployment insurance funds, banks, insurance companies).
Pension schemes
