Higher educational programmes taught in English
Danish higher educational institutions offer more than 500 degree programmes (most of them at Master's level) and over 1000 individual modules taught entirely in English.
Danish higher education is well-known for its unique teaching approach. The institutions offer a dynamic study environment, emphasising independent study, initiative and project-oriented learning.
Undergraduate programmes
There are three different types of undergraduate degrees: the Academy Profession (AP) degree, the Professional Bachelor's degree and the research-based Bachelor's degree.
If you want professionally oriented qualifications and a well structured study programme with periods of compulsory work placements, you might wish to consider one of the Academy Profession (AP) or Professional Bachelor's programmes.
If you prefer a more research-oriented programme with more time for independent studies, group activities and project work, you might wish to consider the research-based Bachelor's programmes offered by the universities.
Entry requirements for undergraduate studies normally include a qualification comparable to a Danish upper secondary school leaving certificate (usually awarded after 12 to 13 years of education). In addition, proof of proficiency in English (TOEFL or IELTS test) is usually required. Please contact the educational institution where you wish to study for specific entry requirements.
Postgraduate programmes
There are two types of postgraduate degrees: the Candidatus/Master's degree and the PhD degree.
The Danish Candidatus/Master's degree is normally awarded after two years of study on top of a Bachelor's degree. The programme is research based and gives students a theoretical knowledge combined with the ability to apply this practically. Upon completion of the Master's programme, students can enter the labour market or undertake further studies for a PhD qualification.
A Danish PhD programme usually lasts three years and is offered at universities and research institutions as well as in business and industry. The programmes are research-based and involve teaching or other forms of knowledge dissemination. The general admission requirements for PhD programmes include a Candidatus/Master's degree.
In addition to the academic requirements, both postgraduate programmes require proof of proficiency in English, such as a passed TOEFL or IELTS test. Please contact the educational institution where you wish to study for specific entry requirements.
Tuition fees
Higher education is usually provided free of charge for all EU/EEA citizens. Students from outside the EU/EEA who are not participating in a bilateral or international exchange programme are required to pay tuition fees. Annual tuition fees for full-time degree students range between €6.000 and €16.000.
A special scheme has been created for the children of economic migrants who have a residence permit due to employment in Denmark. The scheme gives these children access to universities on an equal footing with EU/EEA citizens, that is, without payment. To find out more, please contact your educational institution or contact the Immigration Service.
