Cost of living
The cost of living can vary within Denmark depending on where you live. In this section of the guide you will find answers to questions about the cost of living in Denmark, such as: What is the general level of income? How much do things cost? How are the prices in the private property market?
Denmark in Figures
Statistics Denmark which conducts statistical analyses concerning Denmark also produces figures on the cost of living. If you are interested in statistics regarding the cost of living and annual income, you can find these and much more in the annually published booklet 'Denmark in Figures'. The booklet gives you a short and simple overview of Denmark and the Danes and is a good place to start if you want exact knowledge about Danish society. See the publication Denmark in Figures 2011.
The real estate market
Generally speaking, the cost of housing in Denmark is high, but the price also depends greatly on where you are situated. Typically, accommodation is more expensive in the urban areas than in the countryside, and some neighbourhoods in cities are generally more expensive than others.
Consumer prices
Denmark is among the most expensive countries in Europe when it comes to product prices.
Eurostat has made a report comparing the price levels of food and drink in 37 European countries. See the publication about Comparative price levels in 37 European countries for 2009.
Eurostat has also made a report comparing consumption and price levels in 37 European countries. See the publication about GDP per inhabitant, consumption per inhabitant and comparative price levels 2007-2009.
Workindenmark.dk offers an overview of how a Danish family's living expenses are normally divided.
